Un jour, je serai boulanger!

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.-- Mark Twain

this quote came at the end of an email from the admissions representative from western culinary institute i have been talking to, and when i read that, my heart swelled.
with the coming of that email, also arrived directions to apply for enrollment in january of 2009. so that makes this real! oh my gosh!!!! i sit here and dream about my own little bakery or something.... and i am soon going to be taking some of the first steps towards that. woohoo!!! so exciting!!!

but here i muse about the kind of (steriotypically) people i would serve in each situation. most likely in a bakery setting i would have earthy, friendly people. and then thinking of personal training, i see a sweat stained t shirt, frustrations and low self esteem as my client tries to mkae themselves trim down and look hot in their minds. you know before, i saw the bakery as full of fatties looking for love, and the trainer as full of healthy people looking to better themselves. then i think of my gifts and strengths, i feel i could better give at the bakery. actually talking with people as they come in for goodies for them or their loved ones could be so much more beneficial than helping a self- absorbed person look hot in an enviroment i don't particularly enjoy and feel self conscious and not at ease.
a baker it is. i am so excited now. and... a bit nervous at the new challenge and hard work ahead? oh gracious. cool. that's all. i'm going to call nugget and go hike the butte now... and hopefully the (awesome) thunderstorm we had this morning (that made the air/ ground smell like heaven and honeysuckle) won't come back to strike us again. i feel so peaceful right now. awesome. some things are just right in the world. yay! :-)

  • i'm so happy for you ginny. sounds like you've been getting little bits of peace of mind and encouragement lately. I can't wait to be the early morning "regular" at your place. Or maybe it will be the vip customer who gets to stay after closing every night to sit at a stool at the counter and keep you company as you close up and get things ready for the next crazy early morning. I love you.
