oh what are men compared to rocks and mountains!

quick thought (that will end up being very very long perhaps) before i go watch a movie for one of my classes in the library. i made a vow to myself. you see, yesterday, saturday, i went over to my aunt and uncle's with my sister. needless to say that while there I encountered a mirror that made me realize just how horribly out of shape my body was becoming as it was literally collapsing. so. i made a vow with myself since i attribute my case of collapse-ass to my being seated at my desk all the time, i would exercise (and this may change to be greater or lesser as i fit this vow into my schedule) i would exercise 1 hour for every 2 i am sitting down. this doesn't really count being seated in class.... but i could make it apply. i just figured i need to start equalling my time on my ass with my time off my ass. with the arrival of spring (despite the snow we got last night) it will be more emjoyable to go outside in the fresh air and run! bike! frolick about! go on walks! etc! so. with that said, i would like to proudly announce that today i held up my end of the deal.

i went to church this morning with sam and her family and 2 other girls i knew. it was nice. a guy was getting ordained so it wasn't an ordinary service (palm sunday wasn't mentioned or celebrated which was odd..) but anyways i liked it enough that i think i will definately go back again. also after the service the had donuts.... and those were very tasty. old fashioned are the BEST. woot. so anyways. a girl needed/ wanted to get back right after church so we did head back to whitty instead of hanging out at sam's house for a while. after a nasty (as usual) sunday lunchbrunch of chili and another old fashioned donut and under- ripe honeydew, i returned to my room. i watched a couple episodes of lost online, then did my french homework. then at about 3 i saw the sun streaming through the trees outside and i decided to get off my ass. woot.

dressing for a run in perfect weather (starting off in pants and a long sleeved shirt) i packed my pack and toted along some water and my phone to keep track of the time. it was soooo so glorious! i was stoked and really really reallllllllyyyyyy hoping that the snow on the trails of the back forty was melted. at first it was only melted enough to get my hopes up a bit... but the voila!!!!! brown ground!!!! woohooo!!!! i was very excited. i put my bag beside a mud/ snow bank, and off i trotted at a fairly quick pace. soooo sooooo soooooo NICE!!!! i was just so happy to be outside i barely noticed my breathing rate as i normally do (i measure my in-shape-ness according to that) the air was fresh, the pine needles added SUCH a great bite to the clear air, the sun beat upon my brow when i happened into its path. how can i write of the glory i felt??? oh it was awesome. i burst out into a clear spot at the top of a hill, decided to stop and admire the view.... and after "ahhhh"ing i realized that i was not alone, that i had in fact stopped right in front of a man and his son out of a walk. awkward. so i waited until they were a bit closer, and i commented to them about how beautiful the day was, how nice it was that the snow had melted... etc etc. then i awkwardly turned about and went back the way i came.

i have to go now. but i shall continue this account of my awesome workout later. woot. hotty st paddy movie here i come! ;-)

ahaha for those of you who didn't read the section before this already... that didn't make sense. i am now adding onto the story i didn't finish last night. and this will turn into an epic-ly long post. or else i will add new thougths from actual today, on a new post. good idea. i'll do that. :-) ok. so. i turned around after the awkward but still pleasant conversation with the father and his son. i really took off from them. you see i was already a bit on the tired side, i really had booked it to that spot. SO.... my lungs started sounding real nice real fast... aka i sounded like some old bagpipes. it also just so happened that when i was planning on stopping at the fence/ gate... i happened upon ANOTHER human being. gracious i thought to myself i thought i was getting away from them! this random (pre-frosh) kid was bending(?) a tree.... messing around with it, i don't know. all i knew was that he was right by my stopping spot and i did not want to have another stopping awkward meeting again. ha.

i ran on down a bit until i was out of sight from that boy (also potentially awkward as the boy could potentially see that as me trying to show off, you know, only running real fast when i see a hot boy or something... i was not doing that by the way) so i stopped, and... walked/ ran back to my bag i had stowed. oh it was so glorious. so anyways after some water i decided to do some lunges. so i did a series of lunges, storks, then abs, and even some push ups. woot. ensuit (then) i decided to do some sprints. there are green pole sticking up at intervals along this part of the back forty (actually an infrequently used dirt service road).....

i'll edit again later :-)

like five years later i have decided to edit this. well, the green poles were evenly spaced... yesyes, so i decided to run the length between these two 10 times. well, they happened to be down a hill, around a bend and over 100 meters between them... needless to say my sprint was sooo much harder and longer than i had anticipated. i ended up only doing 5 i think, it was awful, i was wheezing a lot. but it felt great. i smiled to myself. i also almost fell when i approached this snow bank, chunk of un-melted-ness just before my target green pole... i was at full sprint.... so it was dangerous. fortunately i kept my footing as i slid perilously close to a spot where my ankle would have been ripped off, and i reduced speed. awesome. that's basically it. i cooled down, then grabbed my bag and i jogged back up the road, and to.... my dorm. jolly old arend. yay. :-) good old sunshine. also.... i took a massive shower when i got back. also awesome.

THE END

  • Ginny! I'm so glad you're running again! I just started running four weeks ago,I'm trying to get in shape for the half marathon here in may, and it's just hard right now because of finals and homework, etc.
So, I haven't run in like three days, and I need to in order to stay on top of getting the right mileage in. but it's hard when you have a crap load of things to do -
but i'm so glad that you are frolicking outside - it is fun isn't it?
